Ways to Save Your Coins While Decorating Your Home Sweet Home
My recent move really has me in my interior design bag, so it is only right that I make posts that are dedicated to home décor. For some of us, empty space is an opportunity to let our creative minds flourish. If that is you, keep reading to learn ways to decorate your home sweet home, without breaking the bank.
Throughout the process of decorating, I have returned to the same few stores repeatedly. Those stores include Target, Ross, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. I have also used online marketplaces like Facebook and Craigslist (read Bargaining 101: How To Shop Using An Online Marketplace for more details). The one thing all of these places have in common is the ability to find diamonds in the rough at prices that you simply can not say no to. In some cases, there may be a lot to sort through, but with a keen eye and patience, you can spot items that are uniquely made for you and your space.
Even if you choose to shop elsewhere while decorating, the following tips can be applied to save your coins.
My first suggestion is to check out websites that focus on featuring store discounts and rebates, such as Retail Me Not. You would be surprised at how many times I have pulled up Retail Me Not’s website at the last minute and received a discount of twenty percent off or more on my home décor purchases. It is quick and easy and does not require you to create an account.
Also consider, subscribing to store emailing lists. Store emails are probably my least favorite because some companies tend to over saturate your email when all you wanted was the fifteen percent off on your new dining room set. The simple fix to this is signing up, receiving your discount code, applying it to your purchase, and then unsubscribing from the emailing list. If you go about it this way, you will save your coins and your inbox.
In the case that you are decorating multiple rooms at once, I recommend searching for weekly ad newsletters and deals. They are usually displayed on the store’s website or when you first walk in to the brick and mortar store. I prefer this method with retailers like Target and Walmart. It is a convenient way to stay up to date on affordable items, especially when you are decorating and furnishing large spaces, such as a bedroom or living room. Target, in particular, offers great deals every week on home related items and if you sign up for Target Cartwheel and Target Bullseye Insiders, you can add additional discounts on sale items.
This last point is a very important one. When you are doing a lot of shopping for items large and small to make your place nice and cozy, you should definitely file and store your receipts. The reality is that the item may seem like a great fit now, but it may not after you have continued to piece your space together. Therefore, it is best to save your receipts for at least a month or two, so you can avoid the hassle of returns without receipts AND you can get a full refund.
Decorating is definitely an ongoing process that can be expensive over time, so I hope my tips give you peace of mind that your place can be as fly as you want, while saving you coins.
