Best Jeans in the Game for the Curvy Woman + How to Shop for Denim Jeans
Alright, this is a serious discussion because shopping for jeans has always been a SERIOUS task throughout my life. I doubt that this is only true for curvy women, but let me just say that the best jeans I have ever owned were made by Apple Bottom and House of Dereon, simply because they catered to the curvy girl who struggled to find perfect fitting jeans anywhere else.
How do us curvy women find the best denim jeans?
I am glad you asked. There are multiple things to look for when shopping for the perfect pair of jeans, whether you are looking for comfort, style, or both. These tips should do the trick. First, I will start by listing some of my go-to brands when I need to add to my denim collection. All three brands cater to women of all sizes and offer a variety of styles to choose from. Plus, you can buy them IV the Leaux. The prices range from $10 - $30 and all of them offer great sale promotions on top of their already great prices.
1. Fashion Nova: If you are a curvy woman, you are probably already very aware of Fashion Nova. They offer the perfect high waist jeans with a cinched waist to accentuate all of your best curves in the right way.
2. Wild Fable: This is a fairly new brand that is sold at Target. They offer so much variety in their styles. Plus, the quality of the denim is great and the jeans often have a decent amount of stretch to them. They make their jeans very true to size and are tall girl friendly.
3. Arizona: I usually buy this brand from JcPenney, but I’m pretty sure other stores sell them. This is a staple brand for me because I have been wearing them since I was in elementary school. Those 16+ sized girls jeans used to fit just right. I definitely recommend shopping here for your casual looks. My favorite distressed boyfriend jeans are by Arizona.
Okay! Now, let’s get into the nitty gritty details. We need to make sure these jeans fit. So here’s how. As a curvy woman, the first two things I am looking for is correct sizing and stretch. I have a pair of stiff jeans in my closet that I cannot fit and I am not trying to add to that collection. For me, it is important to try on a couple of sizes to ensure that the jeans fit correctly or look at size charts, if I am shopping online. Shopping online can make this tough, so I seldom do it, but with brands like Fashion Nova, it can be a requirement. In this case, read the comments! They will tell you everything you need to know before you add the item to your cart.
Next, I am looking for length. I am a taller than average woman, standing at 5’6 and I have a preference to not wear pants that flood. Length is important! Usually, I can eyeball it or put them up against me. If that does not work, I try them on or read the comments. On Fashion Nova’s website, specifically, I do not purchase jeans unless I see someone who says that the jeans fit perfectly for someone who is 5’6 or up. I am that particular because remember we are looking for the best jeans.
Here’s the thing about me for this next tip. I like to flaunt my curves at the right moments. The only jeans that really let me do that are jeans that truly fit my waist. I love the cinched in effect. Partially because of the accentuation that I get, but mostly because that means the jeans really fit and will not move downwards at the slightest movement.
Speaking of movement, I must have belt loops! You can get away without this, if the waist is super cinched and high. Otherwise, belt loops need to be present because jeans do not give the proper effect if they are not sitting just right.
Another important thing to look for is the quality of the denim. No matter how great the price is for your new pair of show-stoppers, they need to last and typically, the greater the quality means the greater the comfort.
I do not care how stylish the jeans are, if they are not comfortable, “it’s a no for me, dawg!” A hard No! Comfort is key and is usually found if you purchase the correct size, good quality, and care for them properly.
The other things I am about to mention are my preferences for the style of denim jeans that I usually buy. It will include some of the things I already mentioned. I like comfortable, high waisted, long, skinny, jeans with belt loops and front and back pockets. Boyfriend jeans and distressed jeans are high on the list, too!
